A large number of people with enigmatic pasts make up the Astral Express team. Among these is Dan Heng, who is the Express’s guard and also the archiver.

It is more likely that he is on the express because he is fleeing from his past than it is because of his current work. His backstory tells that he was once led away as a prisoner from Xianzhou. He was then transported from Xianzhou and placed on an Interastral Peace Corporation (IPC) spacecraft. But after this IPC spaceship was eventually sunk, he made the decision to travel by himself in an effort to escape. A job on the Astral Express is then offered to him by Himeko, whom he meets shortly after. You might have noticed that Dan Heng wields a spear. However it is not just any common spear, but is called as “Cloud-Piercer”.

Sanymucos' designer, inspired by the weapon of the game character, has designed a weapon prop that can be divided into three segments. This helps to create a more realistic and accurate experience.

If you remember watching the “Nightmare” trailer. In one of its scenes, you can spot Dan Heng’s spear in the ground.

What’s interesting is that the weapon on the right is also from someone we know. It matches perfectly with what Jing Yuan wields in combat.

And besides it, you’ll also spot a sword with cracked blade wrapped with some bandages. This is a perfect match to the sword that Blade carries with him.

With all of this evidence, it is obvious that Jing Yuan, Blade, and Dan Heng are connected to a significant historical event in Xianzhou. This teaser hints that Blade is after Dan Heng, which explains why Dan Heng is evading capture. Another Dan Heng character narrative implies that Blade was the one who sank the IPC spaceship that Dan Heng was traveling on. Dan Heng may have killed Blade numerous times in the past, according to the light cone "Nowhere To Run". However, after each instance, Blade appears to resurrect and begin his pursuit of Dan Heng. “He can neither lose to this man, nor truly win.” “Though he wants to run away, there is nowhere to run.” There’s also this very interesting part in Dan Heng’s character story, “it is his first time seeing his own body clearly.” “This body belongs to him. It belongs to this current name.” This suggests that he has altered his appearance and that even the name "Dan Heng" isn't actually his. He most likely done this to better conceal both his history from Xianzhou and Blade.

His use of the phrase "it belongs to him" in reference to his body shows that the method he altered his appearance involved more than just changing his clothes or hairstyle. He appears to have completely altered his body; perhaps he stole a body. But there’s this line is his character story, “He has changed his appearance and might no longer be recognized, but he knows that same power still lurks within him, unable to be shaken off no matter where he goes.” “This power drags him down, slows him, tries to overwhelm him, and makes him unable to escape his past.” Dan Heng appears to still possess the "same powers" in this new body. This implies that he is not inhabiting another person's body but has instead used this capacity to morph or change his own body. We know that Dan Heng is usually shown associated with red maple leaves. There’s this scene in the “Interstellar Journey” trailer.

This person with long hair, pointy ears and a pair of horns is also shown with the same leaves. The color scheme of this character also matches with that of Dan Heng. So could this perhaps be Dan Heng’s previous or original appearance?
